A case of writer's block inspires a young novelist to return home to New York City and reconnect with his engaged ex and his bohemian parents.

A certain city in Japan where the spread of marijuana has become a social problem. The purpose of the investigation was to crack down on Hip-hop groups suspected of cultivating marijuana. Izanagi, a practicing detective, is suddenly ordered to infiltrate a group of rappers.

A fictitious department "Finger" established within the Metropolitan Police Department to deal with the social problem of keyboard murder = finger murder, in which the victim commits suicide in the worst case, suffering from slander and burning on the Internet.

Mita Sakura is considered to be weird by her colleagues at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, because she voluntarily works in the unidentified bodies department. About 20,000 unidentified bodies exist in the country and Mita Sakura works on returning these unknown deceased people to their families.She has a colleague, Tsukimoto Makoto, who works in the same department. They are totally opposite in terms of their personalities and interests. Mita Sakura is bright and warm-hearted, but Tsukimoto Makoto is calm and cold-hearted. They do share the same desire to return these unidentified bodies to their families. To find the identities of these deceased people, they rely on the few clues that are left behind on them.

Saku Shingo is a non-career police officer but rose to become a director at an unusually young age. He is one of only 10 directors in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. Directors are the ones that take command of investigation task forces which are set up when major crimes such as murder and kidnapping take place. An investigation task force gathers some 40 – 100 investigators from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, the police precinct concerned and neighbouring precincts. A director is the leader at an investigation scene who manages this hastily assembled group and is required to come up with a solid investigation plan.
